Deb Ellis Organic Shape Metalwork has been a passion of mine since my first jewelry fabrication class realizing that my creative ideas can come to life in metal. The combination of torch, tools, and techniques captivated me and continues to do so.

Combining traditional metalsmithing with new mediums adds a new dimension to design. This led to exploring the new material, silver metal clay and receiving my certification for teaching in this area. I have been working with metal for many years and enjoy exploring and learning about metals as art and craft. The simple organic shapes that abound in nature intrigue me and provide inspiration for my designs. I primarily work with silver and copper, sometimes incorporating stones and other materials that allow the design idea to branch out and develop.Deb Ellis Pod Pendant

Although my emphasis is on metal, my primary objective is to develop the concept of small sculpture. This has led to working with ceramic clay and the raku process, creating small treasure boxes of clay and metal. As with jewelry, these boxes have the ability to make a connection with a person as it is something you touch, feel, hold.

I have been teaching at the Spokane Art School for several years and enjoy sharing the processes of metalwork with others. This has also given me the opportunity to meet many wonderful and creative people in our community.
